2024 Savagnin

$45.00

Savagnin is a rare grape originating from the Jura region in France. This makes Space Girls the perfect partner for The Stars Baby, The Stars… our beautiful Trousseau, also a Jura native. Not to be confused with Sauvignon Blanc, she’s pretty, yet spicy. Voluptuous with just the right amount of citrus tang.

LIMITED AVAILABILITY – 1 bottle per transaction

Big news — our Savagnin ‘space girls’ 2024 just scored a Trophy at the 2025 IWSC (International Wine & Spirit Competition)! Only 40 trophies were awarded worldwide, and our tiny batch (just 50 dozen!) of lo-fi 2024 Savagnin ‘space girls’ was singled out for its individuality, finesse, and texture.

We do what we do because we love it! And a trophy like this shows others love it too! Old-school winemaking, small-batch, pure and honest. A huge win for us, showing that adventurous, handcrafted wines can stand proudly on the global stage.

IWSC judge Rebecca Palmer, associate director Corney & Palmer said “This outstanding single varietal Savagnin stopped us in our steps – a thrilling wine, beautifully made. The most extraordinary Savagnin – simply the most delicious example of the variety and demonstrating the versatility, aspiration and potential of the region.”

Tom Kline (IWSC judge) agreed: “Savagnin was a brilliant surprise that got the entire panel excited. It showed energy, complexity and confidence — qualities we were keen to encourage in the region’s alternative varieties.”

OFFICIAL TROPHY MEDAL (IWSC) TASTING NOTE

” The enticing fragrant notes of salted lemon and delicate jasmine intertwine seamlessly. The palate reveals a silky texture, showcasing green apple, almond, and tangy spring florals, while a burst of saline drives the vibrant finish, leaving a lasting impression. “

Description

‘space girls’

You get a real maritime feel when you smell good Savagnin – all coastal heath and salty seaside air.

This hand-picked Yallingup fruit was basket-pressed to tank for settling before racking to aged French barriques to begin a long natural fermentation. The wine remained on light lees for 8 months prior to bottling in November, unfined, unfiltered.

Salty, briny, misty, floral, magical. This smells of a spring-time coast, wildflower aromas, sagebush, smokebush, and then you get that lovely lemon citrus and perfumed talc filtering through. Also tangy green apple, green chilli, mint and curry leaf. Some lovely musky sweetness, lemon curd, palm sugar, mangosteen and green tea. There’s just a touch of toasty French oak peeking through.

The naturally high acidity of Savagnin shows through on the palate. Crisp and bright, yet there’s some warm
lemony oiliness in the mouth – yes, it’s creamy but the tight minerally acidity speaks of fresh lime juice in a gin & tonic. At once savoury and sweet: kiwifruit, finger lime, lemon curd, vanilla, cardamom.

Pretty nice with Asian broth.

Organically produced. Vegan Friendly
